What are you looking for?

  • Nelson Tasman

Arguably the sunniest town in New Zealand, Nelson started off with a large Italian community who grew some of the most delicious tomatoes this side of Naples. Luckily, many of these varietals still remain, despite the hothouses being turned into townhouses, and you can purchase the plants and fruit at the Nelson Farmers Market - the epitome of Nelson cuisine. You can purchase your weekly produce alongside the region's best chefs and passionate foodies, and it is such a wonderful experience to talk to the growers as well. Many food producers start off with a stall at the market. It is a great way to trial new ideas, and you can find crisps, peanut butter, chia drinks, granola and other wonderful delicacies in a collection of small tents. Despite some of these companies now enjoying international success, they still show support to the region that gave them their start.
