What are you looking for?

  • Northland

Northland stretches from north of Wellsford to Cape Rēinga and has a rich history of both Māori and early European settlement. It has some of the mildest climate in New Zealand and is often referred to as the winterless north. This unique climate contributes significantly to the horticulture of New Zealand, as many things grow here that won't grow in cooler parts of the country.

Northland is a popular tourist destination and has a growing local population. Most of the small towns have a number of cafés with locally roasted coffee. The Bay of Islands is known for its big-game fishing but also local offshore fishing. The local oysters are gaining a national reputation. Citrus and avocado are found everywhere, and Kerikeri oranges have a national reputation. The first grape vine in New Zealand was planted in Kerikeri, and there are a number of excellent vineyard restaurants in the region.
