Modern European cuisine, sourcing local, seasonal, friendly knowledgeable service on city edge of Halswell.

The Bicycle Thief originally opened in late 2005 out of a once covered carpark in Latimer Square, Christchurch City. The carpark previously housed a dozen or so cars but was converted into a low-light, Italian restaurant as a means for the owners to support their young family (ages 3,6 & 9 at the time.)

The inner city Bicycle Thief survived the 2011 Canterbury earthquakes with minor damage but was forced into closure by compulsory acquisition, due to the politics and doctrine of the CBD rebuild.

In early 2016 The Bicycle Thief re-established, leaving the city for the bucolic Canterbury countryside between Halswell and Tai Tapu. The space looks a bit different but it feels just like it used to and this time - the daughters are old enough to work.
