Hosted by The District Cafe
as part of Tino Reka te Kai - Waikato Matariki Dish Challenge
Matariki is the season of the harvest. The District’s dish is made from Waikato produce (hua whenua) and Coromandel mussels (kaimoana).
It celebrates the basket of tubers that Whakaotirangi brought with her from Hawaiiki on the Tainui Canoe and how she learned the time to plant and the time for harvest from the animals, birds and the stars. We want to tell her story on the plate and on the page.
