Hosted by Greystone Vineyard
Matariki Storytelling: we want to connect all aspects of earth, air, land and sea as a reflection of what North Canterbury and Waipara have in abundance. The connection of site, soil and sunshine provide amazing ripening for award winning, World Class wines. The taonga from the land and sea provides unique nourishment for all those who seek it.
We hope to reflect our unique position here at Greystone in Waipara and surrounding areas. We are very fortunate to have a well, respected and passionate māhita in Melany Wright, who creates our unique, weekly menus here at Greystone. Mel grew up in North Canterbury and from a young age was introduced to hunting and gatherings from the surrounding environment as a way of life, which she continues to this day.
Her philosophy is a perfect reflection of Greystones own sense of place. We aim to source locally grown and foraged kai, which we feel best expresses our wines. As the saying goes, “if it grows together, it goes together”.
The menu will be a reflection of the environment of North Canterbury. It will be full of Kai Moana and native flora.
Reservations available through our website.
The Friday foraging event will be priced at $150, while the lunches sourced by the forage are priced at $79 for the Saturday and Sunday.
The event is split into two. Those who book on the 24th will be invited to accompany Mel and will be involved with foraging and flora identification and collection for the menu, followed by Matariki celebration lunch and wine pairing at the Cellar Door. The 25th and 26th will be served lunches as a continuation of the story.
