Hosted by Orphans Kitchen
In celebration of Matariki, Māori new year, we're launching a 2-course set dinner menu, available for one month only, 18 June to 13 July.
Matariki is a time to celebrate the food of Aotearoa. It coincides with the Pleiades constellation rising in the pre-dawn sky in June or July each year.
This time in the Māori lunar calendar (Maramataka) is called Pipiri which means ‘to draw close’. It was a traditional time to give thanks for the food that had been harvested in the preceding season.
There was a great deal of mana associated with being able to offer guests what had been harvested and collected, the word ‘manaakitanga’ (hospitality) is related to this. Matariki is a time for renewal, the end of one growing year and the promise of a new one ahead.
We look forward to sharing the bounty of the changing season with you all. The two-course menu offering is short & sweet as you'll see below.
Choose one of two entrees and one of two mains for a tidy $35 per person. Two desserts are also offered for those wanting a sweet finish to their meal.
*note: The special menu does not replace our normal dinner offering. Orphans a la carte menu is available to everyone as per usual as well.
See you in the dining room!
