For many of us in Aotearoa currently it feels like we’re in the 'waiting room of life’, a holding pattern until things restart. While we’re physically restricted there’s no reason our minds can’t stretch their legs.

And that’s exactly what our online Food Hui on Monday 1st November is designed to do. Leave Covid vaccination rates behind for a few hours and listen to some of our greatest food thinkers reimagine the future; chefs, academics, business and tourism experts, food producers and eaters.

What's on the menu?

Here's what we have in store for the full day of the Virtual Food Hui 2021.

Sign up to tune in...

Mana Kai

Following on from our call at last year’s Food Hui for a national food strategy, we’ll talk to Ian Proudfoot from KPMG. He is part of a leadership group developing Mana Kai; a proposed values-based framework for Aotearoa.

How can we create better outcomes for everyone in our food system and how can you get involved?

NZ Food Waste Champions

One third of our food is wasted from farm to fork. How can we halve this by 2030? Co-chair of NZ Food Waste Champions 12.3, Miranda Mirosa will update us on the current state of play...

What needs to be done and what’s already happening?

Partnership for our food story

While many of us couldn’t make it happen in person, Hana O’Regan welcomes us virtually to Te Wai Pounamu/ South Island, much of which is Kai Tahu territory and a powerhouse for our food production. Hana is a current member of the Waitangi Tribunal and one of the great torchbearers for Te Reo and education.

What can we learn about being good partners in our food story?
